Durban: 4th Annual 5KM Stop Human Trafficking Awareness Family Walk
Durban friends to join and contribute. Please see details below...
Human trafficking
is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world and it is now tied with the
illegal arms industry as the second largest international criminal enterprise,
after the illegal drug trade. The International Labor Organization estimates
that there are currently at least 27 million adults and children in forced labor,
or commercial sexual servitude worldwide. Human Trafficking generates over 410
Billion Rands a year!
South Africa has
been a victim of this heinous crime for many years. The lives of citizens are
at risk as the market for stolen body organs has recently ascended greatly.
Unfortunately a lot
of people in our communities see Human Trafficking a myth that only haunts extremely
poor developing countries and not South Africa. Umgeni Community Empowerment Centre would like to invite you to
partner with us and be part of the solution by helping us to raise awareness
and raise funds for Shiloh House Crisis
Centre for victims of domestic violence – and trafficked victims.
On the 23rd
of September 2017, we are hosting our 4th
Annual Stop Human Trafficking 5km Awareness Walk. This spectacular
educational and entertaining day will be held at The Green Hub, Blue Lagoon, Durban
at 8:30am to 14:00pm.
For the past 3 years, UCEC
has successfully held an Annual Stop Human Trafficking 5km Awareness Walk. The
aim of this walk is to raise as much awareness as possible on Human Trafficking
and also to help raise funds for Shiloh House for abused women and children and
Trafficked victims. Organising our previous Awareness walks, and other
projects, we have partnered with, Oil Tanking GC, SA Home loans, 3C Technology,
We Are Durban, KZN Slots, Springbok legend, Andre Joubert who added his opinion to support campaign, saying “If you think Human Trafficking does not happen in South Africa, think
again”
We have also partnered with
Sharks Rugby icon, Tera Mtembu. We have also worked with Dr Albu van Eeden,
expert in Child pornography the founder of Doctors for Life. This year, we have
invited Human Trafficking expert and author Dr Monique Emser, as one of our
guest speakers. We have also been recently joined by reigning Miss Junior South
Africa 2017, Simara Moodley to take
a stand against Human Trafficking. Special guest at the walk is Patrick Lambie.
Our Annual Walk always receives a lot of media coverage from Newspapers,
Radio Stations and TV channels such as SABC News and ETV. The coverage includes
a number of radio interviews and News Paper articles. The overall media coverage is worth R3 Million of Advertising
Value Equivalency.
This year, we have hired a well established
PR company handling the media liaising pre, during and post event. This PR Company
has handled big campaign and we are confident that this year
our walk will escalate to a much higher level and make a bigger impact.
