We also often tend to think of joy and happiness as the same thing, but they’re not. For example, the apostle Paul has joy even in the midst of sufferings:
“In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy” (2 Corinthians 7:4), whereas it would be hard to say that someone is happy in the midst of hardships.
Ultimately joy is part of the fruit of the spirit:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23, ESV).
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23, ESV).
